About This Course
Foundations of Nursing I introduces students to the principles, values, and practices that form the basis of professional nursing. The course examines the development of nursing, the roles and responsibilities of the nurse, ethical and legal standards, communication, patient safety, infection prevention, and fundamental approaches to patient care. Students are introduced to the nursing process and the systematic assessment of patient needs, while developing the professional judgement, interpersonal skills, and practical knowledge required for clinical learning. The course provides an important link between classroom knowledge and nursing practice, preparing students to approach patient care with competence, responsibility, respect, and attention to individual needs.
